I think that orchids are very easy to grow. Most people kill orchids by over watering them. Usually about once a week is fine for a orchids to be watered. If the orchid is in bloom then water it twice a week .I like to water them from above the pot some people like to dunk them in a pot of water then let them drain. I feel that you can loose too much of the potting media that way and you can spread disease that way. Do not use the ice cube method of watering it does not work and the plant does not get the fertilizer it needs. I give my orchids a low dosage of fertilizer about 1/4 or 1/2 strength of what the manufacturer is suggesting for flowering plants. I do this about every other week then on the other week I give them a fertilizer for plant folliage growth. I give them just water about once a month. Orchids need bright but filtered light. There are a few varities that can handle more light. I suggest that you do some research on the different varieties that you are growing so you can give then the right ammount of light. Orchids like the same temperatures as you do pretty much not too hot and not too cold. Do not put them where they can get a draft from a window or on a tv where they will get too hot. Even temperatures with about a 20 degree change at night is about right for a orchid. You might want to check to see what temperatures the Orchids that you are growing like and make adjustments from there. Orchids do need some form of humidity. This can be done by placing them on some sort of pebble tray. This is easy to make yourself with any plastic container like a small cat littler box filled with a few inches of pebbles keep water under the pebbles so your plant pot does not sit in water. As the water evaporates from the pebbles it will add humidity to the orchids. Orchids like to be root bound so keep them is pretty small pots. Orchids need to be repotted every year. Add new potting material at this time and check to make sure your roots look good and healthy.
